Dr. David Renner and Dr. Margarite Melikian are both chiropractic physicians at Kinesis Healthcare in Glen Ellyn. They met while studying and teaching karate with the Illinois Shotokan Karate Clubs and have been happily married since 2005.
David Renner, DC, DIBAK
Dr. Renner believes in making the world a better place by helping one person at a time. His mission is to help people live healthy, pain-free lives.
Dr. Renner has been in practice since 2006 and enjoys serving as physician for the USA Shotokan Karate Team. Being the team doctor allows him to combine his two passions and lifelong pursuits: holistic medicine and karate. Treating the former world-champion before his debut in 2009 is especially memorable for him.
He earned his Doctorate in Chiropractic medicine from the prestigious National University of Health Sciences and has a Diplomate degree in Professional Applied Kinesiology (PAK), with over 500 hours of post-doctoral training in this field.
His love of martial arts began when he was only eight years old. He is a San Dan (3rd degree black belt) and has been studying and teaching karate with the Illinois Shotokan Karate Clubs (ISKC) for over 25 years. His competitive career includes the distinctions of being a two-time national champion.
At present, he continues to teach karate part-time at the Saint Charles and Park Ridge park districts. He is a nationally ranked referee with the USA-NKF. He is also an executive board member of ISKC's booster club, which raises over $90,000 per year in charity donations for such causes as cancer, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
Margarite Melikian, DC, MSAc
Dr. Melikian's passion for alternative medicine stems from her own experience. As a teenager, she injured her knee and endured severe, unrelenting knee pain and swelling for years. Physical therapy did not help, and she was told she would need knee surgery at just sixteen years of age. Desperate, her family turned to an acupuncturist and recovered completely in just three treatments. Acupuncture saved her from knee surgery.
This experience inspired her to help others avoid unnecessary suffering, drugs, and surgery. Her mission is to help educate her community about natural solutions for lasting health & wellness.
Dr. Melikian earned her Doctorate of Chiropractic medicine and her Masters in Acupuncture with Cum Laude honors from the National University of Health Sciences. She is certified in Professional Applied Kinesiology (PAK) and has attended over 450 hours of post-doctoral education in PAK and internal medicine. She has been in practice since 2008 and is focusing on women's health.
Dr. Melikian has studied karate with the Illinois Shotokan Karate Clubs (ISKC) and holds the rank of Ni Dan (2nd degree black belt). The highlights of her competitive career include a national title in 2001 and training with the USA team at Lake Placid Olympic Training Center. Although she is no longer teaching, this is still a large part of her life, and she continues to volunteer at local karate tournaments.
